Live & Learn!
Science has proven over and over again that one way to slow down age-related memory loss is to keep your mind and body active and challenged. Whether you do the daily newspaper crossword puzzle or walk to the corner deli, these activities can strengthen your brain and add zip to your step.
Since September means back-to-school, we have pulled together a special issue of Thrive NYC chock full of information on courses and tours, places to go in the Big Apple to learn a new trick, trade or even trivia.
Elder education is booming as you’ll see in our story “Senior Studies” which profiles three organizations that specialize in lessons for the 55 plus set. Classes range from college-level courses in the classics and politics to health studies from aerobics to yoga.
For fun trips out and about, we took a tour of the Steinway factory in Queens and met “The Real Piano Man” who showed us what goes into creating their world-class instruments. We also highlight some other fun tours for chocolate loves and adventurers willing to walk on the wild side.
And while we’re on wild adventures, check out “Volunteer Vacations” the latest trend in travel where you work while you explore.
For a real education, Managing Editor Jerry Tallmer visits with Prof. Irwin Corey who recently turned 95 years young. It’s a party and history lesson in one! We wish you many more happy birthdays, professor!
